Due to a ferry cancellation the recycling collection for Coll cannot take place, this has been rescheduled for Wednesday 7th October.

Due to strong winds all sailings are liable to disruptions/cancellations at short notice on 29th and 30th September 2026. Each sailing will be reviewed at time of sailing.

Due to the adverse weather we have had to cancel the recycling collection due today 29/09/2026. This will now be carried out on Thursday 01/10/2026 weather permitting. Please check the website for future updates. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Due to the bank holiday on Monday 28th September, the following routes may be collected a day later than the published schedule, please leave your bins out on the allocated day as we may manage to catch-up: 

Clynder, Cove and Kilcreggan

Hermitage Avenue, Cambell Drive, Malcolm Place, Fisher Place, Kent Drive,  Hardy Hill, Camperdown Court and all Churchill area.

Due to the Public Holiday on Monday 28th September, refuse collections scheduled for that day will not be carried out.

Resurfacing works are being carried out at Bogleha from Tuesday 25th August and are expected to last 2-3 days.

There have been recent issues with waste wood acceptance from the Council’s contractor, Enva due to issues at their processing plant. 

As a temporary measure, waste wood brought to Blackhill will be placed in the mixed waste bay and not recycled for the next few days, including over the weekend, 

The plant is expected to be operational again from Monday 22 June; however, this interim arrangement at Blackhill HWRC will remain in place for a short period thereafter.

There may be some disruption to the Council’s online and telephone services for example affecting  the Contact Centre and 24/7 Voice automated payment services or making online leisure bookings. If the service you require is temporarily not available, please try again on Monday 30th March.

Scottish Water will be undertaking a watermain upgrade along the B8016 at the River Laggan Road Bridge. Work is scheduled to begin on the 9th of March 2026 and is expected to take approximately three months to complete.

The Dunoon Customer Service Point and Registrar’s Office, currently housed at Ellis Lodge Argyll Road Dunoon PA23 8ES , is relocating to Argyll House 91 Alexandra Parade Dunoon PA23 8AJ. 

The last day of business at Ellis Lodge will be on Friday 20th February 2026.

The new location at Argyll House 91 Alexandra Parade Dunoon PA23 8AJ will be closed to the public on Monday 23rd February 2026 to allow for a smooth transition.

The Dunoon Customer Service Point will open its doors at Argyll House on Tuesday 24th February 2026, with the same opening hours of 9am to 12pm and pre-arranged appointments available in the afternoon on request.

The Easdale ferry service is liable to disruption and cancellation at short notice for the rest of today due to strong winds

We have been unable to collect commercial general waste on Gigha on the 5th and 12th of February due to ferry sailing cancellations. These collections will now take place on Saturday 14th February, weather dependent. Can all commercial properties affected please have their bins presented for collection on Saturday.

A816 north of Kilmartin - road open

The B832 is closed due to a fallen power cable - we have reported this to the power company. Access is available from both ends. 

The Glen Luss road in Helensburgh closed on Friday night due to a landslide. Council teams along with contractors have cleared the road of a significant amount of debris and unblocked the culvert, however, given concerns about the stability of the hillside the road remains closed until it can be inspected.

B845 Taynuilt Village - Road open

A814 closed at the B872 roundabout  (Faslane Naval Base) due to flooding. 

The B8035 is closed at Ardvegnish near to the junction with the A849 due to flooding. The is part of the same road already closed at Gribun Rocks (on account of previous landslips) and effectively closes the stretch of road between the two points.

HSCP have been alerted and will support anyone in their care.

In an emergency, contact the appropriate service in the normal way.

Commercial waste collections that have been missed from Thursday 2nd October in parts of Kilchrenan will now be collected over the weekend (Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October).

We are aware of forecasted Storm Amy weather conditions and understanding of potential concerns about leaving bins out, however we do ask to please aim to have bins presented for collection over this time period to allow us to action any missed bins.

General waste collections that have been missed from Monday 29th September in Bridge of Orchy and surrounding areas will now be collected over the weekend (Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October).

Due to flooding, the B840 is closed between its junction A816 and Ford at the dog loch (Lochan Ceanna a' Choin). The flooding has not receded sufficiently by 1600 Saturday to make the road safe to open. This will be reviewed again at lunchtime tomorrow (Sunday). Access is available from either end 

General waste bins North of Kilmartin that were missed on Friday 3rd October due to a road closure will now be collected on Friday 10th October.

A816 between Lochgilphead and Cairnbaan - road open to traffic

A846 Low Road at Ballivicar Farm – Road closed until further notice. Please use the B8016 as the alternative route.

Due to site resurfacing works, there have been some disruptions at Westlands Recycling Centre since Monday, 18th August. Bad weather has caused delays to the completion of the works. The site remains under these temporary restrictions until the work is fully completed. 

• The site is expected to partially re-open on Saturday 4th October to the public (nothing bigger than cars, the temporary facility will remain in place for other users over the weekend).
• The site is expected to fully re-open on Tuesday 7th October to all vehicles.

Only essential items are to come to site during this period and vans & trailers may be restricted. 

Disposal of the following items must be avoided during this time: 

• scrap metal
• TV’s
• white goods
• plasterboard
• hazardous household wastes e.g. waste oil and paints.  

Please keep such items at home until the works are complete.

The B844 Kilninver Bridge is under traffic management arrangements to ensure the safety of the travelling public and to provide short term protection to the bridge structure while it undergoes emergency repairs. 

Weight restrictions have been lifted but Abnormal Loads are still not permitted to cross the bridge.

Commercial glass collections due for collection today in Oban have been delayed due to an issue with our refuse vehicle. These collections will now take place on Friday 20th June

The recycling lorry has suffered a breakdown and will be returning to the mainland for repair.  In the meantime, the smaller vehicle will be carrying out the service of small 240ltr bins until further notice.  Once the large general waste lorry has completed its runs, it will be servicing the larger commercial bins.

Due to the breakdown of the large recycling lorry, the small refuse lorry is carrying out the recycling service in Islay and Jura this week.  Unfortunately, the small refuse lorry cannot lift the large commercial bins.  This includes Ardfin, Jura Hotel, Jura Shop, Small Isles Primary School, the bin at Knockrome and at Feolin Pier in Jura.  This will also affect other premises on Islay which have large commercial bins.

Bowmore Surfacing Works 16th – 18th May 2025
Localised surfacing through Bowmore from Bunanuisg to the Cruach Road, including the entrance to the Square is planned to start on 16th May for three days.

Works are scheduled to be carried out each day starting at 09:00 and are expected to be completed by 19:00.

During the works, parking is not permitted in the areas indicated by the placement of No Parking cones. These will be placed in advance of the works actually starting in order to allow the proposed surfacing works to take place without delay.

Works to remove the existing surface is expected to be carried out in highlighted areas on Friday 16th & Saturday 17th May.  Surfacing will be carried out on Saturday 16th & Sunday 18th May. 

Pedestrian and vehicle access to properties and businesses will be maintained.  However, there will be times when vehicle access and deliveries will not be possible whilst works are being carried out to adjacent properties.  Please contact us on the number given below if you have any access or delivery concerns.

All recycling collections scheduled for this week (w/c 3rd March) have been delayed. These collections will now take place next week on your usual collection day. For example, if your blue bin was originally set to be collected on Monday, 3rd March, it will now be collected on Monday, 10th March.

The Westlands recycling centre has now reopened for household recycling and rubbish disposal. Due to wind damage, the transfer station for commercial customers disposing of waste will be closed until Monday 24th February. 

Due to high winds Moleigh Civic Amenity Site Oban is currently closed. This will be reassessed every hour and reopened when the winds die down.

Moleigh recycling centre in Oban is now open.

Due to the ferry cancellation today (20th February) we are not able to uplift the green bins on Gigha. These collections will now take place on 27th February. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Stay safe, do not travel - we are receiving reports of storm damage to the road network across the area, from trees down to sea walls being damaged.

Our roads teams are getting to work this evening as quickly as it’s safe to do. With weather warnings continuing for wind, snow and ice, our gritting teams and operations teams are out together tonight (Friday) clearing where possible, and clearing priority one routes.

An amber warning is still in force, however, what we can safely do this evening is limited by conditions and light. Please continue to follow the advice from Police Scotland and do not travel.

This is the situation across Argyll and Bute with the exception of Mull and Cowal where it remains unsafe to clear any debris during darkness.

Various issues are affecting the road network, for example:

• Trees fallen across roads for example B842 East Kintyre, B843 Machrihanish , A814 East Clyde Street
• Flooding for example at multiple locations on the A846 and A847 on Islay
• Seawall damage for example of the A815 in Dunoon at Argyll House.

Due to a fallen tree the C17 Oa road is closed between the distillery and Dail Na Mara. There is good visibility to the issue for drivers and a nearby alternative route

We are not responding at the present time due to wind speeds being above safe operating parameters.

Due to a fallen tree East Clyde Street is closed at Eastwood Lane.

Due to weather conditions we were unable to collection recycling collections yesterday from Calgary toilets to Kennedys garage. We will now look to uplift these bins on Saturday 11th January.

Due to an unexpected road closure on Saturday 4th January we were unable to collect blue bins from Leckuary Farm to Barmollach on the C38.

These bins will now be collected on the next scheduled collection day which in the 15th. Excess waste can be collected if the weather is suitable for it to be placed next to your bin, in a box on collection day.

We are aware of a power supply fault on Church Avenue, Cardross that is affecting a number of streetlights on both Church Avenue and Reay Avenue. Scottish Power are aware of the fault and we are awaiting their attendance.

Due to the number of parked vehicles blocking access, we were unable to empty the general waste bins in Eaglesham Terrace, Rothesay today (24th December). Please leave your bins out for collection and we will make a further attempt to uplift the bins on 26th or 27th December.

Due to high winds and the ferry being on amber, today’s general waste collection on Iona will not take place.  We are going to reschedule this collection for this Friday 27th December. This will take place instead of Christmas day’s rescheduled Duart - Craignure glass, which will now take place on Saturday 28th December. We apologise for any inconvenience.

The B840 Road is currently closed 3 miles North of Eredine.

Traffic can reach the point of closure from Lochgilphead via the A816 - b840 to Eredine.

For Properties beyond or North of the Closure the diversion routes are as follows:

From Oban - Via the  A85 to the A819 Cladich - B840 to Eredine.

The trees causing the problem should be removed cleared early tomorrow morning 23/12/2024,

The Road is now Closed - C9 Beyond Ardentinny at the Glenstriven Caravan Park due to fallen trees.

Traffic is able get as far as the Caravan Park from Dunoon via the A815 - A880 Kilmun / Blairmore /Ardentinny.

For Properties and access beyond the Caravan Park trafffic will have to take the followig route from Dunoon

A815 to Whistlefield C9 JCT -  C9 to Slighgrachan and GlenStriven Caravan Park.

The Trees causing the problem will be dealt with / cleared early tomorrow morning  23/12/2024.

Recycling on Gigha will now be collected on Sunday 29th December. Please present your bins for uplift on the day. It should be noted that this revised collection date is weather dependent, and we will update the website if this changes.

A816-110 Cuilfail Hotel Bridge, Kilmelford is open under Traffic Management (portable traffic lights) until Phase 2 works are completed in January 2025. There is no weight restriction is currently in place.

Due to a technical issue the green domestic and blue recycling uplifts scheduled for Monday 16th, Tuesday 17th, Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th December 2024, Will not take place as scheduled. Please look to the website for further information on when the next uplift will take place. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Route 1&2 are affected.

U024 Kilennan Bridge, Islay. Kilennan Bridge on the U024 Avenvogie Road is closed to traffic following severe scour of the structure's abutments and piers during a weather event in December 2024.

Repair works, due to be carried out in January and February, were unfortunately delayed due to Storm Eowyn. Works are now underway and expected to be complete by early September 2025.

Access

• No vehicles are permitted to cross the bridge until repairs are complete and the bridge is re-opened.
• Local access is maintained along the U024 up to around 10m either side of the bridge.
• Diversions are via B8016/A846/C012/U024 and vice versa.

Key dates

• The bridge was closed on 13/12/24

• Repairs began on 7 July 2025 and are expected to be completed in early September. The road will remain fully closed until repairs are complete.

Due to a vehicle breakdown we were not able to collect the recycling in Rosneath, Garelochhead, Rhu and the Arrochar area last week.

We are currently experiencing a technical issue with some online payments, when making payments online for council tax, invoices, school meals and other services. The issue is affecting some customers whose banks require 3DP secure authentication for online payments (when you have to enter a passcode or authorise the payment with your bank before the transaction is processed). Our payment provider is working to get this fixed as soon as possible. If you are having problems with online payments for services, here are some alternative ways to pay -

UPDATE - Works at C019 Kildalloig, South of Campbeltown, were completed today (5th November). The signage will be removed later today, for the road to be officially reopened tomorrow morning 6th November.

Works will be ongoing at a different section of the seawall at Davaar Cottages on the C019, but this work will be managed by appropriate traffic management measures.

The Mid Argyll awkward access vehicle which covers Ardrishaig/Castleton/Moneydrain/Cairnbaan/Degnish/Kilmartin has broken down.  Currently we do not have an alternative uplift date so we would ask that you take in your bins.  We apologise for any inconvenience and will provide an update as soon as possible.

Due to the weather conditions today 04/10/2024 the refuse collection service due on Jura will not take place. 
Whilst the ferry is currently running, the possibility of disruptions or cancellations remains a risk and as such,

The PayByPhone parking app is currently off-line across the country.  Our suppliers are working to resolve the issue. This only affects car parking payments by phone via the app, you can still pay at machine via:

Green bins missed on Lower Lochawe yesterday will now be collected today (Fri 19th)

Essential IT work is being carried out Thursday 18th April between 18:00 and 20:00. There will be some downtime to online systems during this period.

We were only able to do part of the domestic and general recycling uplift today (12/04/24)  due to the breakdown of the refuse lorry.  From the north of Gigha ferry terminal up to the north end of Gigha have been missed.  The uplift will now take place on Friday 26th April.  If you have any excess recycling please place in clear bags and we will collect along with the bins on the 26th April. We are unable to collect any black bagged recycling.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
