www.abplace2b.scot, a new website to promote living and working in Argyll and Bute, has been launched. This builds on the very successful #abplace2b which is being used by the council, its partners and members of the public on social media to direct positive national and international attention to Argyll and Bute.

Hermitage becomes first school in Scotland to gain Investors in Young People

Hermitage Academy has become the first school in Scotland to gain national accreditation with Investors in Young People.  This accreditation framework recognises organisations that are committed to recruiting, retaining and developing their young workforce; it acknowledges them as an employer of choice, providing practices that have positive outcomes for young people.   Roseanne MacKay, Depute Head at Hermitage, led the school through the process.

Kirn pupils help to strengthen German links

A group of 15 pupils from Kirn Primary School have recently returned from a successful exchange trip to Germany.   Kirn was paired with Hardenberg Gymnasium in Fürth as a result of a long standing exchange programme that’s been in place between the German school and Dunoon Grammar, for more than 30 years.   The exchange was an opportunity to strengthen the link between the two areas, and the Kirn youngsters were partnered with German students the same age as them.

Meet Julie-Anne McDermid. Julie-Anne is a support practitioner with Carr Gomm in Argyll and Bute, providing support to those who need it.   “No two days are ever the same working with Carr Gomm,” she said. “Because our work is person-centred, our days are all dictated by the outcomes of the people we work with and these vary widely from person to person.

Planning permission granted for £18million Helensburgh Waterfront Development

Argyll and Bute Council’s Planning Protective Services and Licensing (PPSL) Committee today approved plans for the £18million Helensburgh Waterfront Development. Councillors gave the green light to the plans which will see a new leisure centre and swimming pool opened in the town, replacing the existing facility which will be demolished.

Did you know that over 600 marriages are conducted by Argyll and Bute Council’s registrars each year? That’s almost two weddings every day. In 2002 the law changed in Scotland, allowing people to get married anywhere. Since then, the registrars in Argyll and Bute have seen an influx of people tying the knot in a variety of beautiful locations across the area.

Staff and pupils at Campbeltown Grammar are excited to be moving forward in their new school building and to be making positive changes in light of the recommendations made by Education Scotland in their inspection report. The head teacher, staff and pupils are looking forward to discussing the progress made when Education Scotland returns next month (March).
