Argyll and Bute Council has agreed its approach to meeting new duties under the Scottish Languages Act 2025, including plans for community-led consultation on potential Areas of Linguistic Significance.

Argyll and Bute Council will be undertaking essential repair works to the ferry slip at Port Askaig, which serves the Islay to Jura ferry service.

The Council has welcomed positive discussions with the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic, Mairi McAllan MSP, about education for young people on Mull.

The Council has agreed financial support for two local heritage organisations, recognising the growing financial pressures facing cultural and community organisations and the contribution they make to local communities, the visitor economy and Argyll and Bute's heritage.

Argyll and Bute Council has reported a significant reduction in carbon emissions, with total emissions falling by 7.9% during 2024/25 and by 35.8% since the Council's 2015/16 baseline year.

Progress continues on a wide-ranging programme of projects designed to support housing, economic growth, community infrastructure and regeneration across Argyll and Bute.

“It is with such huge sadness that we learned of the passing of Councillor Dougie Philand. He has been part of the council for such a long time that it is very difficult to imagine it without him.

Councillors will consider the latest budget outlook, community funding requests and the importance of attracting additional investment when the Policy and Resources Committee meets tomorrow.
