The council has responsibility for a variety of marine services across Argyll and Bute, including seven main piers and harbours.
Vicki McKenzie is the harbour master at Oban North Pier and pontoons.
Talking about her role, Vicki said: “I love the variety that my job offers. The North Pier and pontoons are really busy throughout the year, with both commercial and leisure traffic. We see a lot of cruise ships coming in too, as well as a lot of large commercial vessels.
“The pontoons provide flexible, short-stay accommodation for vessels of varying sizes, whilst our new visitors’ maritime facility is home to the harbourmaster’s office, toilets, showers, lockers and a changing area as well as commercial space which is currently rented out.
“We’ve seen a large increase in the number of tourists visiting the area since the pontoons opened. In the first two months alone we had 5,000 visitors come ashore. I love that we are able to provide people with a warm Argyll and Bute welcome and let them see what the area has to offer.”
