Proposal for the closure of Ardchattan Primary School

Argyll and Bute Council is seeking views on a proposal that education provision at Ardchattan Primary School be discontinued with effect from 31st October 2019.

Pupils of Ardchattan Primary School will continue to be educated at Lochnell Primary School.

The catchment area of Lochnell Primary School shall be extended to include the current catchment area of Ardchattan Primary School.

On 14th March  2019, Argyll and Bute Council’s Community Services Committee agreed that a consultation with all stakeholders be undertaken on the proposal.  This  will be undertaken under the terms of the Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010 (“the Act”).

The consultation period will start on 18th March 2019 and end on 17th May 2019. Written representations must be received by this date in order to be taken into account.

We are now pleased to invite you to attend a public meeting at Ardchattan Primary School, Ardchattan, by Oban, Argyll, PA37 1RH on Thursday 2nd May 2019 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Council officers will attend to explain the background and answer any questions. You will be invited to fill in a feedback form on the proposal, which can be anonymous.

Following the close of the consultation in respect of the future of Ardchattan Primary School, the Council have now reviewed the proposal in light of all responses received and have prepared a Consultation Report which provides details of the outcome and findings of the statutory consultation exercise undertaken in respect of the formal proposal in accordance with the requirements of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 as amended, a copy of which can be accessed below. 

The Consultation Report will be considered by the Council’s Community Services Committee at their meeting on Thursday 5th September 2019, where they will make a final decision on the proposal.

Following the decision of the Community Services Committee on 5th September 2019 to approve the proposal to close Ardchattan Primary School, the Council informed Scottish Ministers of this decision in accordance with Section 15 (2) of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010. 

 Scottish Ministers conclude that having reviewed the Council’s Proposal Paper and Consultation Report, they consider that the Council have fulfilled their obligations under the 2010 Act and consequently have decided not to issue a call-in notice for this proposal. 

 Education provision has therefore be discontinued from Ardchattan Primary School as of 31st October 2019.

Argyll and Bute Council is also seeking views on a proposal that education provision at Ashfield Primary School be discontinued with effect from 31st October 2019.

It is proposed to close Ashfield Primary School, zone pupils to Tayvallich Primary School and realign it’s catchment area.

On 14th March  2019, Argyll and Bute Council’s Community Services Committee agreed that a consultation with all stakeholders be undertaken on the proposal.  This  will be undertaken under the terms of the Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010 (“the Act”).

Proposed rezoning of the catchment area of St Columba’s Primary School

Argyll and Bute Council is seeking views on the proposal to rezone the catchment area for St Columba’s Primary School so that it is extended to resemble the current mainland catchment area for Oban High School.
