Out-of-Hours Contact Information

We know that life doesn’t always stick to a 9–5 schedule, If you need to get in touch with the Registration Service outside of our regular business hours, here’s what you need to know:

Emergency Contact (After Hours)

If you’re a couple or a celebrant and urgently need to speak with a registrar outside of our normal office hours regarding a ceremony, please contact us via one of our social media accounts.

You can also email registrationenquiries@argyll-bute.gov.uk, however please note it may take longer to receive a response, so we would recommend trying social media first.

If your enquiry is not urgent for example, your ceremony is not taking place before we re-open or for any other registration enquiries please contact us through our normal channels, and a registrar will respond once the office re-opens.

 

Amendments to Marriage or Civil Partnership Schedules

We understand that sometimes things change at the last minute, a witness may be unable to attend or the weather might change your planned ceremony location. Here’s a quick guide of when to contact us:

Minor Changes (No Need to Contact Us)

If your ceremony is not being conducted by a registrar and you need to make a small amendment such as:

  • A witness name change (any witness must be 16 years or over)

  • A location update within the same area e.g. from inside a hotel to the adjacent beach.

  • Any spelling mistakes or typos that were not noticed when the schedule was collected.

 You do not need to contact us. Simply:

  • Record the change on the white signature sheet provided with your schedule. For locations please be as detailed as possible. For witnesses please provide their full name and address.

  • Return the white sheet with your marriage or civil partnership schedule and the registrar will update the details.

Significant Changes (You Must Contact Us)

However, if something big changes like:

  • A change of ceremony location that might move your ceremony outside of the original registration district.

  • Your celebrant becomes unavailable, we must check that the new celebrant is authorised to conduct your ceremony.

  • A change to the date of the ceremony, as we must check that the new date remains within your notice window.

Please contact us as soon as possible via our social media accounts so we can guide you appropriately. Once the registrar confirms that the changes are acceptable, please note them on the white signature sheet provided with your marriage or civil partnership schedule and return it to the registrar after the ceremony.

Under no circumstances should you or your celebrant make any alterations directly on the marriage or civil partnership schedule (yellow paper).
