Where a person uses or hires a boat to carry for reward, 12 or fewer persons for pleasure, recreational, educational or sporting purposes, a Boat Hire Licence is required.

There is no licence required to busk or perform street entertainment in Argyll and Bute, however it is advisable you contact Police Scotland to ensure that you are not/will not be causing an obstruction. Please note that is an offence to give any other person reasonable cause for annoyance and fail to cease playing on being required to do so by the Police. This may result in a summary conviction and a fine of up to £200.

To run a caravan and camping site, you need a licence from the local authority. The number of caravans permitted on the site will be specified on the licence along with other specific conditions which are designed to provide adequate standards of amenities, facilities to users and more importantly to protect their health and safety.

To work as a private hire driver in Argyll and Bute, you need a licence from the Local Authority.

Any moving event held in a public place anywhere in Scotland can be considered a parade or a procession. This can include races, fun runs and sponsored walks; processions; gala day parades and street parties; demonstrations and protests; displays and promotions. Anyone who organises a public parade, procession, or event in which a body of people moves will need to submit a notice of proposal to the council.

If you wish to operate a public weighbridge, you will be required to sit and pass a written and practical test, administered by your local Trading Standards Officer

Building Standards Certificate (Raised Structure)

A Road Opening Permit is required as per section 109 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, for anyone other than an Undertaker, (e.g. Scottish Gas, Scottish Water or BT), who requires to open up the public road or verge to carry out works, (e.g. footway and kerb work for driveway and road connections for housing developments).

If you need to erect scaffolding over the road or footway - you must complete and read the necessary application forms.

If you need to place a builders skip on the road or footway you must complete and read the necessary application forms.

A licence is required to use a portion of a public street, road or place for the sale of food and drink and for the placing of tables, chairs or other temporary furniture outside a restaurant or cafe for patrons to use whilst consuming food and drink.

A street trader licence is needed by any person who carries on street trading, to any person in a public place in or from a vehicle, kiosk or moveable stall, whether on their own account or as an employee.
