In 2023 Argyll and Bute Council appointed LUC as consultants to explore the opportunities for new active travel improvements around The Corran Esplanade and George Street in Oban and produce a concept design.
Public Consultation
LUC held an initial public consultation between September and October 2023 to help identify opportunities and constraints to active travel within Oban and particularly the project area. A further public consultation on potential design options was held between December 2023 and January 2024.
The information from both these consultations allowed LUC to prepare a concept design. A public consultation on the concept design was held between February and March 2024.

Background
This project is funded through the Sustrans administered Places for Everyone Programme. Places for Everyone seeks to work with communities and partners to create new infrastructure that makes walking, wheeling and cycling easier, safer and a more attractive form of transport for shorter everyday journeys.
The project seeks to build on the active travel community engagement work previously undertaken in Oban through Smarter Choices Smarter Places that led to the publication of the Sustaining Places Action plan for Active Travel and Sustainable Transport in Oban and to help deliver on some of the actions that were identified in the 2023 action plan.
