Owners of historic properties in Tarbert are being encouraged to apply for grant funding to help repair and restore buildings within the village's designated heritage area.
The Tarbert Heritage Scheme, a £3.2 million partnership project funded by Historic Environment Scotland, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Argyll and Bute Council and participating property owners, is offering support for eligible repair works to historic buildings within the scheme's grant area.
Funding is available for:
- Fabric repairs, such as the reinstatement or refurbishment of traditional wooden sash and case windows, and repairs to roofs, chimneys and rainwater goods.
- Shopfront improvements, including full replacement shopfronts, repairs, reinstatement of lost architectural features, redecoration and new signage.
The funding forms part of a wider programme aimed at preserving and enhancing Tarbert's historic environment. Alongside grants for building repairs, the scheme includes the repair and reuse of historic buildings, comprehensive repairs to priority tenement properties, shopfront improvement grants, smaller building repair projects focused on the area's fishing heritage, and ambitions to bring vacant homes and commercial premises back into productive use.
The programme also includes a range of community heritage activities, skills training and educational initiatives that celebrate Tarbert's maritime heritage while helping to develop traditional building skills, support local contractors and create opportunities for young people.
Councillor Jim Lynch, Policy Lead for Economic Development, Housing, Communities and Islands, said: "The Tarbert Heritage Scheme is about much more than repairing buildings. It is an investment in the village's future, helping to protect its unique heritage, support local businesses and contractors, provide opportunities for young people and bring historic buildings back into use. We would encourage eligible property owners to find out more about the funding available and consider applying."
Property owners interested in applying for funding are invited to submit an expression of interest by 13 November 2026.
The first step in the process is to complete the relevant expression of interest form before the deadline.
