Planned repairs to Cot House Bridge, by Dunoon have been rescheduled to begin in spring 2027.
Delays in contract mobilisation and scaffolding availability would have pushed waterproofing work into winter.
Adverse weather, road salt, high water levels beneath the deck and reduced daylight would make conditions unsuitable.
The Council and its contractor have therefore agreed to postpone the work until spring. The contract price will not be affected, and the revised timing will help ensure the repairs meet the required standard.
The Cot House Bridge has specialist half-joint detailing that requires particular care during inspection and repair. The full extent of repairs will be confirmed once the deck is exposed and inspected.
Work will be completed one lane at a time. The road surface will be removed to expose the concrete deck for inspection and repair, then waterproofed and resurfaced before the lane reopens and work moves to the other lane. Defects on the soffit and elevations beneath the bridge will be repaired at the same time. This is a £600,000 investment to extend this life of the bridge.
Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said: “While the delay is regrettable, starting later than planned would extend this complex work further into winter. Storm Boelo has shown the extreme conditions we may face. Rescheduling until daylight hours are longer and the weather is more settled will help ensure the repairs are carried out safely and to the required standard.”
