Education professionals, agencies and employers will meet in Dunoon this week for the inaugural Developing Young Workforce Argyll and Bute Conference.
More than 120 delegates will gather in the Queen’s Hall on Friday (19 May) to share their thoughts and discuss ideas based on this year’s theme: Guaranteeing opportunities for young people and employers in Argyll and Bute.
Young people will talk first-hand about their experiences of vocational learning and work experience, helping delegates to gain a valuable insight into how schools, employers and communities can work in partnership to provide more prospects for young people.
During the event, delegates will also have the opportunity to take part in three of the following workshops:
- Young Person's Guarantee - Scott McKinnon, DYW Regional Lead
- Achievement and the Wider Education landscape - Klaus Mayer, Education Scotland)
- How to become an Influencing Employer Partner – Argyll and Bute DYW Co-ordinators
- The Apprenticeship Family - Colin Buchanan, Skills Development Scotland
- Flexible Learning Plans - Simon Easton, Argyll and Bute Education Manager
Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “We are committed to developing a broader curriculum offer to augment current opportunities with a range of wider achievement awards and accreditations.
“The inaugural Developing Young Workforce Conference will allow key partners to come together and consider ways they can work together to broaden young peoples’ horizons and raise their aspirations, whilst creating their own future workforce and giving back to the local community.
