Changes to the parking payment app

Parking meters across Argyll and Bute currently offer different payment options, from contactless to Chip and PIN, cash and an app (payment by phone).

The suppliers of the PaySmarti parking app are withdrawing it from the market and it will no longer be availiable to use from 14 March 2022. In the meantime, you can still pay for parking using contactless, Chip and PIN, cash or by phone - see below for more information.

A new improved app will be available later this spring.

With increased cuts to the Council budget year on year, any surplus money raised from parking goes towards essential council services, including maintenance of car parks and roads and local amenity projects.

What is changing?

New UK legislation comes into effect next week that requires all online payment to include a secure customer authentication process. This is a two-step verification process, designed to protect customer information. The new app will make it easier to make payments and include additional security measures to keep customer information safe.

How do I pay for parking?

The council has 92 parking meters offering a number of payment options. They include:

  • Contactless and chip and PIN payment at 64 meters
  • Cash – all meters
  • Payment by Phone – call 01604 210 933

Details of how to pay can be found on the council website /paying-parking
