Traffic Regulation Orders

Traffic regulation orders are legal orders put in place to control speed, movement and parking of vehicles and control pedestrian movement on our roads. You can view any proposed traffic regulation orders we have for our roads at the moment below.  You can find out about any traffic regulation orders on Trunk Roads on the Transport Scotland website.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders

The Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders currently in operation in Argyll and Bute are listed below:

Temporary Prohibition of Traffic C30 Kilmaha From its junction with the East Lochaweside Road (B840) at Ford, to its junction with the Kilmelford - Kilchrenan Road (C29) at Druimdarroch. When indicated by signs between 0001 hours on 9th April 2024 to 2359 hours on 30th April 2024 

ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (C17 PORT ELLEN-MULL OF OA ROAD, ISLE OF ISLAY) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

From its junction with A846 in a westerly direction to its junction with U26 Kilnaughton Road for a distance of 323 metres  0001 Tuesday 23rd April 2024 to 2359 Monday 22nd July 2024

ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (CRINAN HOTEL LOOP ROAD, CRINAN)  (TEMPORARY PROHIBITON OF WAITING) ORDER 2024

On east side adjacent to Lock Gate 15, for a distance of 40 metres 2359 hours on the 26th of April 2024 to 2359 hours on the 24th of May 2024 
ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (A817 GLEN FRUIN ROAD) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024 That length of the west bound Layby of A817 Glen Fruin Road (Haul Road), Helensburgh, 560m south east of its junction with A814 a layby extending in a south-easterly direction for a distance of 100m metres 0600 on the Fourth day of April 2024 to 1800 on the nineteenth day April 2024

ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (TIGH DEARG ROAD, KILCREGGAN)(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)(No.2) ORDER 2024

That length of Tigh Dearg Road, from its junction with B833 Shore Road in a northerly direction to its junction with Argyll Road for a distance of 200 metres  1800 hours 31st March 2024 until 1800 hours 31st July 2024
ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (CHURCH AVENUE, CARDROSS)(TEMPORARY PROHIBITON OF WAITING) ORDER 2024

From a point 150 metres north west of the extended west kerbline of Station Road, extending in a North westerly direction for 120 metres or thereby.

Emergency Prohibition of Traffic Bain Crescent Helensburgh

Bain Crescent from its junction with Dixon Road in a southerly direction for a distance of 45 metres or thereby. 

Lever Road from its junction with Bain Crescent in an easterly direction for a distance of 20 metres or thereby.

Temporary Prohibition of Traffic A814  Dumbarton to Arrochar Road

A814  Dumbarton to Arrochar Road, from its junction with A814/B872 Whisltefield roundabout in a northerly direction to its junction with A83 Arrochar for a distance of 13.8 Kilometres or thereby.

C69, from its junction with A814 in an easterly direction to its junction with A82 for a distance of 9.5 Kilometres or thereby.

0800 hours on 11th March 2024 to 2000 hours 15th March 2024 
ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (AUCHENDENNAN ROAD, DUCK BAY, HELENSBURGH)(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024 That length of Auchendennan Road, Duck Bay, Helensburgh, from a point 20 metres or thereby north-east its junction with the A82 Trunk Road extending in a south-easterly direction to the boundary with West Dunbartonshire Council for a distance of 1.1 Kilometres From 2359 on 10th of March 2024 to 2359 on 12th April 2024
Emergency Prohibition of Traffic Auchendennan Road, Duck Bay  From a point 20 metres or thereby north-east its junction with the A82 Trunk Road extending in a south-easterly direction to the boundary with West Dunbartonshire Council (adjacent to Cameron House Entrance). When indicated by signs from 0001 hours on 19th February 2024 to 2359 hours on 10th March 2024
ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL(VIEWFIELD TERRACE, LOCHGOILHEAD)(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024 That length of B839 Viewfield Terrace, Lochgoilhead, from junction with U042 Invergoil in a Southerly direction to adjacent No 5 Viewfield Terrace for a distance of 45 metres  0930 hours on the 26th of February 2024 to 2359 hours on 6th March 2024
THE ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (B8001 CLOANAIG) (TEMPORARY 10MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) ORDER 2024 That length of the B8001 Claonaig from a point 130 metres south east of its junction with the B842 extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of 250 metres  0001 7th March 2024 until 2359 hours on 25th July 2024
Emergency Prohibition of Traffic U19 Connel  From the junction at A828 in a Southerly direction to the junction with C32 at Barranloch Farm for a distance of 5.1 kilometres  Between 0900 hours on 12th February 2024 to 1500 hours 23rd February 2024 when indicated by signs

ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (DALARUAN STREET, CAMPBELTOWN) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

From its junction with the A83 Millknowe Road in a westerly direction to its junction with Broad Street, a distance of 275 metres  From 2359 hours on the 19th of January 2024 to 2359 hours on the 12th of April 2024

ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (C32 GLENLONAN ROAD) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

That length of of the C32 Glenlonan Road, from its junction with  the A85 Trunk Road extending in a south westerly  direction to its junction with the U19, a distance of 1,290 metres  Between 0800 hours from the eighteenth day of January 2024 until 1800 hours on the twelfth day of April 2024
THE ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL (B836 BALLIEMORE BRIDGE, LOCH STRIVEN) (TEMPORARY 20MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) ORDER 2023 That length of the B836 Balliemore Bridge, Loch Striven for 260 metres 0001 hours on the 11 December 2023 and will remain in operation until 2359 hours on the 1 May 2024

That length of the Glendaruel West Road, as carried by Glendaruel Bridge from a point 30 meters north of Glendaruel Bridge in a southerly direction for 70 metres  From 0001 hours on the 1 April 2023 and will remain in operation until 2359 hours on the 1 October 2024

Abnormal Loads

"Abnormal Loads Movements" - A brief guide to Notification and Authorisation requirements.

An ‘abnormal load’ is a vehicle that has any of the following:

  • a weight of more than 44,000 kilograms
  • an axle load of more than 10,000 kilograms for a single non-driving axle and 11,500 kilograms for a single driving axle
  • a width of more than 2.9 metres
  • a rigid length of more than 18.65 metres

If you’re responsible for transporting an abnormal load, you need to follow regulations for notifying the authorities.

Before a large or heavy load can travel on the road, we need to check that there are no problems with the route it proposes to take.  If you wish to move such a load in Argyll & Bute, or for any further information, please contact abnormalloads@argyll-bute.gov.uk with the following details:

  • route proposed
  • date of journey
  • vehicle sizes
  • vehicle weight and axle configuration

N.B Abnormal Load movements on our Trunk Roads, (A82, A83, A85, A828) should be sent to Transport Scotland.

Mull Roads Weight Restrictions

An exemption system has been introduced permitting vehicles with a plated MGW greater than a particular roads restriction to travel along such a road provided the GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT (GVW) does not exceed the route MGW restriction.  Applications can be made here
