Food waste collection

Find out about using your food waste bin.

Most homes in the Helensburgh and Lomond area can have their food waste collected weekly. You can use our online form to request a food waste bin or a kitchen caddy.

Supplies of liners can be collected from the Customer Service Point at Helensburgh Civic Centre, from Cove and Kilcreggan Community Hub, or from Helensburgh Library.

Your food waste bin is emptied every week - check your collection day using our postcode look up here

Using your kitchen caddy and bin

You can use your 7 litre kitchen caddy to collect your food waste before putting it in your 23 litre food waste bin

You can put all your food waste into your food waste bin for collection, including:

  • meat and fish, including bones
  • fruit and vegetables
  • dairy products
  • bread, cakes and pastries
  • beans, pasta and rice
  • tea bags and coffee grounds
  • used kitchen towel and paper with food residue

Please try and only put full bags of kitchen waste in the food waste bin to minimise the number of bags required.

Caddy liners

We deliver supplies of liner bags every 6 months.

Please use either the caddy liners provided by us when putting food into your food waste bin, or fully compostable carrier bags can also be used (some supermarkets such as the Co-op now provide these in their stores).
