Tarbert Heritage Scheme Grants

Information about the available grants and the application process.

What grants are available?

Building Repair Grants

To date, the project is looking to fund £878,642 worth of repairs to three tenements, all of which are in multiple ownership and require substantial works.

Funding of £221,325 is currently available for building repair works to historic properties.

Shopfront Grants 

Funding of £353,303 is currently available for fabric repair works to shop frontages.

Who can apply?

Grants are available to:

  • Private property owners; and
  • Commercial property owners and business tenants (with landlord consent).

All properties must be located within the designated Tarbert Heritage Scheme boundary.

What to do

Expression of Interest

  1. Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are invited from property owners within the programme area. Please contact claire.hallybone@argyll-bute.gov.uk
  2. EOIs are then scored using the Tarbert Heritage Scheme Assessment Table.
  3.  "Invitations to apply" will be issued to projects with the highest scores.
  4. An Application Form and Guidance Notes are then issued, and introductions made to the project architects.

Application

  1. Agree the proposed works and cost plan with the project design team.
  2. Obtain any necessary statutory consents, such as Planning Permission.
  3. Obtain at least three competitive quotes for the works.
  4. Compile your application and request a level of grant based on the tender returns.
  5. The application will be assessed by the Local Area Partnership, and possibly also the project funders.
  6. The grant recommendation will then be reviewed, and signed off by, Mid Argyll Kintyre and the Isles Area Committee.

What works are eligible?

Only works that use traditional materials and methods of repair will be eligible for grant. 

Applications will be assessed against a number of criteria, including:

  • Contribution to heritage conservation;
  • Impact on the townscape, and conservation area;
  • Urgency, and condition of the building;
  • Wider community or economic benefit; and
  • Alignment with the scheme’s objectives.

Priority will be given to projects that deliver long-term positive impact for Tarbert.
