Mariners should expect some restrictions at Carradale Harbour, for up to four days from 11 May, as a dive inspection gets underway.
Please proceed with caution in the vicinity of the harbour and be aware of warning flags (Flag Alpha) and VHF safety broadcasts on CH 16 during the work.
Carradale Harbour is an important asset for local fishing and leisure users. A general inspection conducted in January 2025 found several parts of the pier to be in good condition, although some defects were noted in the sheet piled walling, parapet and timber cope, with recommendations to remove corroded steel and replace deteriorated timber.
There is an emerging concern regarding the harbour’s ICCP (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection) system, which may not be operating optimally, and part of the dive survey will be to examine these issues.
The main elements to be covered during the inspection are:
- Steel sheet piles
- Ladders
- Cathodic protection
- Impressed current cathodic protection system
- Masonry retaining wall and concrete steps
The harbour master will issue a Notice to Mariners.
