The winner of the 'Put YOUR Town on a Pedestal' competition - celebrating the heritage of Helensburgh with a brand-new artwork for the Outdoor Museum in Colquhoun Square - has been chosen.
Taking its place on a plinth in the square will be a representation of a bronze age food vessel excavated from Portkil, on the Rosneath Peninsula. The idea was submitted by North Clyde Archaeological Society and Ruaraig Maciver, from Beltane Studios, has been commissioned to create the artwork.
The idea for the work was selected following a competition run by Argyll and Bute Council, in partnership with the Helensburgh Outdoor Museum Design Panel and is part of wider plans to develop the Outdoor Museum. It is funded using fenced capital funds from the Council’s CHORD Project, agreed by councillors in 2018, and the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Fund.
The picture shows Jim Chestnut and Sandra Kelly from the North Clyde Archaeological Society, along with Ruaraig Maciver, braving the rain to stand beside the plinth where the artwork will be situated.
