The Council’s Asset Management and Amenities teams of Roads and Infrastructure Services have been recognised with a national award for commitment to improving the service, training and use of technology to offer a better service to communities.
The teams were awarded a Bronze Striving for Excellence Award by the Association for Public Sector Excellence (APSE), at its recent conference in Aviemore.
The award is open to all 32 local authorities in Scotland and provides a benchmark as to how Argyll and Bute is performing against other councils.
The teams demonstrated that steps have been taken to work more collaboratively, efficiently and demonstrated that use of technology is helping streamline processes, structure staff training and provide on-site staff with the information and skills needed to work effectively.
Having ‘real time’ information about on-site activities means that staff can react to address resourcing issues in different areas or respond to severe weather events. These efficiencies will help make better use of both physical and financial resources and improve service delivery.
Councillor John Armour, Policy lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said: “Achieving this award is very much a team effort and I’d like to congratulate everyone for their hard work. It shows we’re at the forefront of local authorities in recognising smart use of tech can join up back-office workers with our front-line staff to help deliver the service that we know our communities want, at a time when our resources are stretched.
“I want to specially mention those members of the team we see out on our streets, parks and green spaces day after day, in all weathers, keeping our communities clean and tidy. Thank you for your service.”
