There will be no disruption to the Kilcreggan ferry service during the week beginning 3 August as repairs are conducted to the berthing face at Kilcreggan Pier.
The works have been carefully planned around the CalMac ferry timetable and periods of low tide to minimise disruption and maximise efficiency. This means the ferry services are not expected to be adversely affected during the works.
However, because of the nature of the construction activities there will be periods of noise from plant and machinery while this essential maintenance is carried out. This may continue into the evening.
Kilcreggan Pier is over 100 years old and in generally good condition for its age. The repairs required include:
- A clamp bracket to strengthen the joint between the horizontal member to berthing face pile;
- Securing and replacing bolts that connect the cross bracing to the timber piles;
- Replacing/securing all galvanized corner brackets; and
- Securing rubber fenders on the face of the pier head structure.
Councillor Ross Moreland, Chair of Argyll and Bute Harbour Board, said: “We are pleased that the works can be done at a time and in a way that will cause no disruption to the Kilcreggan Ferry service at this busy time of year. However, we recognise that there will be some noise disruption and appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community in this instance.”
