Helping Argyll and Bute build digital confidence

Whether it's paying bills, booking appointments, applying for jobs or keeping in touch with family and friends, being online has become part of everyday life. For some people this comes naturally, but for others getting online can feel unfamiliar or daunting.

Free help is available for anyone who wants to become more confident using digital technology via a help guide on the council’s website.

From sending your first email, learning how to use a smartphone to accessing council services online and staying safe while browsing the internet, the guide offers practical support to help you get going.

In rural and island communities, knowing how to get online can make everyday tasks easier, reduce the need to travel and improve access to services from home. It can also create employment opportunities and help with learning new skills while helping people stay connected with family and friends.

The council’s guide includes easy to follow advice on getting started online, using council services, recognising scams, protecting personal information and finding affordable ways to get connected. Designed for beginners of all ages it allows residents to learn at their own pace.

Councillor William Sinclair, Policy Lead for Corporate Services, said:

"The world is increasingly online so knowing how to get what you need online is important for us all. If you'd like to be more digitally confident, the council website has resources and a practical guide to help.”
