Residents across Argyll and Bute are being encouraged to share their views on the housing issues that matter most to them as the Council begins work on a new Local Housing Strategy.
The new strategy, which will be launched next year, will set out how the Council and its partners will work together to tackle the area's housing challenges and create thriving, sustainable communities over the next five years.
Housing remains one of the most significant issues facing Argyll and Bute, affecting communities, businesses and economic growth. The Local Housing Strategy will provide a clear vision for future housing and housing services, helping to ensure that everyone has access to a home that meets their needs.
It will also outline how partners will continue to respond to the housing emergency while supporting the area's long-term growth and development.
Key priorities include:
- Increasing the supply of housing
- Improving the quality and condition of existing homes
- Tackling homelessness and housing affordability pressures
- Expanding housing choice and affordability
- Supporting people with health conditions and disabilities to live independently at home
- Improving energy efficiency and addressing climate change
- Creating successful places with homes connected to transport, services and employment opportunities
To help shape the strategy, the Council has launched a short public survey and is keen to hear from residents of all ages, from all communities and living in all types of housing.
The survey is open from 10 July to 4 September 2026.
Councillor Jim Lynch, Policy Lead for Economic Development, Islands and Rural Communities, said:
"Housing is one of the biggest challenges facing Argyll and Bute and it is vital that our new Local Housing Strategy reflects the priorities and experiences of the people who live here. Whether you're struggling to find affordable housing, looking to downsize, concerned about the condition of local housing stock or thinking about the future of your community, we want to hear from you.
"The feedback we receive will help shape the decisions we make over the next five years and ensure that investment and resources are targeted where they are needed most. I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to complete the survey and have their say on the future of housing in Argyll and Bute."
The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete. Responses will be used for research purposes only, and individual households will not be identifiable from the results.
