Over £32,000 was awarded to local organisations through the Campbeltown Common Good Fund last year with Campbeltown Brass Band a great example of how groups based within the town can benefit from this fund.
In December 2025, Campbeltown Brass Band was awarded £1,500 to assist with the cost of purchasing a new, good-quality baritone for a band member who has profound hearing loss.
Band member Gregor received the instrument and said: "Having the new baritone has made a huge difference to my playing and it’s made me a much more confident player."
The Campbeltown Common Good Fund has helped many community groups, organisations and charities in Campbeltown. Funding is distributed four times a year, applications can be received all year round and each one will be considered at a meeting of the trustees.
The trustees are the three councillors who represent Campbeltown, and they alone make the decisions on distributing the funding. The next funding decisions will be made in September, so applications for the next tranche are being accepted now.
Chair of Campbeltown Common Good Fund, Councillor John Armour, said: “The fund currently has a limit of £1,500 for each application and is primarily aimed at groups to support ‘one-off’ projects. The application form is very simple to complete; many groups comment on how easy it is to make an application and how much the funding has helped their organisation. Council staff are always on hand to help you with any questions you may have.
