People using electric vehicle charging points in Argyll and Bute should be aware that, as from February, they will be operated by ScottishPower and not Charge Point Scotland, which will no longer be operating.
This means that how you pay for charging will change.
If you use a phone app with EV chargers you will need to download the ScottishPower app from:
If you use an RFID card, you will have to order a new one. You can do this in two ways:
- a ScottishPower RFID card, ordered through ‘my account’ in ScottishPower’s Recharge App. It may take up to a week to arrive by post.
- a roaming RFID card (eg Zapmap or Electroverse. Delivery times will vary, allow at least two weeks).
Contactless payment will be available at some, but not all, charging sites.
Full details on the payment changes and how they will work can be found on the council website: www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/car-parks-and-parking/changes-electric-vehicle-charging-points-network
Please ensure that you update your method of payment as soon as possible. There may be days during the switch over when some chargers are operated by ScottishPower and some by ChargePoint Scotland. Details of the moving date for each charger will be published on the Council website: www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/car-parks-and-parking/electric-vehicles later this month. During the transition period, the operator of the charger will be clearly marked on it.
The new arrangements reflect ScottishPower’s work with HITRANS, the Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership, to support its drive to increase the roll-out of electric vehicles across the region and its management of the wider EV network across Argyll and Bute, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.
Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said: “I’d urge those EV owners who make use of our public chargers to download the ScottishPower app and apply for a new RFID card, if that’s what they use, immediately. This will ensure that they can continue to make use of our chargers during the switch over from providers. Please be assured, we are doing all we can to make the roll-out as smooth as possible throughout February.”
