The Council has welcomed positive discussions with the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic, Mairi McAllan MSP, about education for young people on Mull.
Council representatives met with the Scottish Government to discuss plans for a multi-million pound campus on the island, delivering education services for 2-18 year olds.
Engagement is set to continue with a discussion bringing together national and local government representatives, and wider stakeholders.
Councillor Kieron Green, Policy Lead for Education said
“We had constructive discussions with the Cabinet Secretary and welcome opportunities to continue this dialogue. We share the aim of delivering improved educational opportunities and outcomes for young people on Mull.
A wider discussion is a positive next step, and we look forward to there being balanced representation of island views at that meeting.”
A date for the meeting is being planned.
A Scottish Government Spokesperson said:
“Scottish Government has already been engaging with Argyll and Bute Council to understand if any further flexibility is needed in the funding contribution to the project. We continue to emphasise the importance of continued engagement with local community groups, in line with the commitments made in the Islands Act.
“We are providing significant support for Mull Campus through our £2 billion Learning Estate Investment Programme and Ministers look forward to the project being progressed as soon as possible.”
