Please remove any trailers and boats from the B881 Kilchattan Bay, Bute, near the Kayak Centre, in the next fifteen days or risk having them removed - that is the warning from Argyll and Bute Council.
The Council has issued the warning to anyone who abandons vehicles, trailers or boats on any street or car park. The move follows complaints from residents who have witnessed boats and trailers left for extended periods of time on the B881
The council is acting under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978 section 3.1 that enables local authorities to remove abandoned vehicles and arrange for their disposal. Under the act, it is a criminal offence to abandon a vehicle without lawful authority.
The council will place notices on trailers and boats. Registered owners, where they can be traced, will also be contacted to remove their vehicles within 15 days or risk them being removed and disposed of.
There is a charge of £300 for removal and disposal as per The Removal, Storage and Disposal of Vehicles (Prescribed Sums and Charges etc.)(Scotland) Regulations 2005.
Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads , Transport and Amenity Services said:
“After receiving several complaints from residents, who are tired of seeing lines of trailers and boats parked for extended periods of time, we are acting.
This is a public street and not a private storage facility. We’re asking anyone who is using the street to store their boat, to remove it in the next fifteen days or risk losing it. We want to avoid removing and destroying your property so please find alternative storage. Thank you for your assistance.”
*Permissions should be in place prior to storing vehicles at alternative locations. Please do not move these vehicles to a space owned, controlled or managed by Argyll and Bute Council.
