Formal control of parking on Lorne Street, Union Street and part of Manse Brae, Lochgilphead, will come into force on Saturday 20 December to reduce risk to the traveling public while the A83 Lochnell Street is closed.
The A83 is closed to traffic between Manse Brae and Argyll Street, Lochgilphead, to protect the travelling public while a dangerous building is being stabilised. Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland are reviewing the closure arrangements, including pedestrian access, but the route will likely remain closed over the festive period.
A Strategic Incident Diversion Route, via the A83-A819-A85-A816, has been put in place for vehicles, but a significant amount of traffic, including articulated wagons and HGVs are making use of Lorne Street and Union Street as a diversion route.
Police Scotland immediately responded to safety concerns to control no parking on these streets, but it became clear after multi-agency discussions that formal parking control is required.
The Council, as traffic authority, has therefore implemented a no waiting (no parking) restriction on the full extents of Lorne Street and Union Street, and a partial restriction of Manse Brae from its junction with Union Street to its junction with the A83 to help reduce risks.
The Order came into effect at 00:01 hours on Friday 19 December 2025. Local residents, and anyone parking on the streets, will receive a letter on 19 December and formal enforcement will not take place until Saturday 20 December.
We thank the public for their support.
