The Provost of Argyll and Bute is to send congratulations to King Charles III on his Coronation.
At their meeting today, councillors recognised work being done in communities across the area to mark the occasion, paid tribute to the difference volunteers and community groups make to life in Argyll and Bute, and agreed that congratulations should go to King Charles III and Queen Camilla on his Coronation on May 6th.
Councillor Maurice Corry as Provost of Argyll and Bute will write to the King. Councillor Corry said:
“This is a historic occasion, the first coronation in 70 years and the first most of us will have seen. People across Argyll and Bute are taking steps to mark the occasion, which includes a national day of volunteering and service to the community.
This brings a reminder of the amazing difference volunteers and community groups make to life in Argyll and Bute in so many different ways.
Congratulations and thanks go to everyone who takes action to support others and their communities. And I will be pleased to send congratulations from Argyll and Bute to the King, and Queen Camilla, on his Coronation.”
The motion which gave rise to the Council decision was proposed by Councillor Tommy Macpherson and seconded by Councillor Alastair Redman.
The Coronation takes place on Saturday 6th May 2023, with The Big Help Out, the national day of volunteering and service to the community, on Monday 8th May.
