Helensburgh and Lomond residents are being encouraged to ‘do a bucket load of good’ by using free food caddies to turn food waste into green energy and compost.
Argyll and Bute Council’s new campaign aims to increase the number of residents using their free food caddies to help reduce household waste and carbon emissions. Many people are already using food caddies with the council collecting over 550 tonnes of food waste every year. More people are now encouraged to make the most from their food waste.
Using the food waste recycling service can reduce household waste by 65%, stops food going into landfill and will help the journey to net zero carbon emissions by 2045.
Anyone living in Helensburgh and Lomond can order a free 7-litre kitchen caddy and 23-litre outdoor food waste bin. Compostable caddy liners are also free.

What can I put in my food waste caddy?

- fruit and vegetables

- bread, cakes and pastries

- tea bags and coffee grounds
