Did you know you can vote in council elections if you’re 16 or over?
There is an opportunity to have your say in who represents your community with a council by-election in the Kintyre and the Islands ward, where there is a vacancy for one councillor to sit on Argyll and Bute Council.
Six candidates are standing for election - they are listed below in alphabetical order by surname:
- Gopi Ageer (Scottish Labour Party)
- Kenny MacKenzie (Scottish Liberal Democrats)
- Lachie MacQuarie (Scottish National Party)
- Alastair Redman (Independent)
- Tom Skinner (Scottish Green Party)
- Hamish Stewart (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party)
Only those aged 16 or over, and who are registered to vote in Ward 2, Kintyre and the Islands, can vote in this by-election. Registering to vote is quick and easy to do. You can do it online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and the deadline is midnight on Tuesday 13 September.
Polling Day is Thursday 29 September. You can find a list of polling stations at Notice of poll and situation of polling stations By Election 29 Sept 22 (argyll-bute.gov.uk) - and you can also vote by post. You need to apply for a postal vote before 5pm on Wednesday 14 September.
If you can’t get to the polling station yourself, you can appoint someone else to cast your vote for you - a proxy vote. The deadline for proxy applications is 5pm on Wednesday 21 September.
