A street cleaner from Oban has been featured in a prestigious national photography exhibition after having his picture taken by a local photographer.
David Farrell was working during lockdown when Christopher Cox from Taynuilt stopped him and asked if he could take his photo.
Christopher then submitted the image to the National Portrait Gallery’s Hold Still digital exhibition, where it made the final 100 portraits from almost 32,000 entries received during the project’s six-week entry period.
The exhibition is spearheaded by the Duchess of Cambridge and focusses on three core themes – Helpers and Heroes, Your New Normal and Acts of Kindness – the images present a unique record of the UK’s shared and individual experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic, conveying humour and grief, creativity and kindness, tragedy and hope.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Roads and Infrastructure Services, Councillor Robin Currie, said: “Our key workers and frontline staff worked extremely hard to keep Argyll and Bute moving during lockdown, so it is brilliant to see David getting national recognition for him and his colleagues.
