Members of the local community on Coll have teamed up with teachers at Arinagour Primary School to provide island pupils with a wide variety of remote learning challenges during lockdown.
As well as the day to day learning tasks set by teachers, residents on the island are also thinking up novel, fun ideas for children to get involved with.
This week’s task has been set by the chef at the local hotel, who has invited children to create a recipe for his takeaway menu. The winner of the challenge will then be able to order the meal, as it will be added to the hotel’s menu!
Other challenges include a Coll Quiz and a Highland Dance Challenge. The Highland Dance Challenge saw pupils dancing for 10 minutes each day with their finished, well-rehearsed piece being filmed and sent into the head teacher at the end of the week. The children loved getting involved and were proud of their final versions.
Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “This is a great example of our teachers and local residents coming together to ensure that our young people can still take part in a wide variety of learning opportunities during lockdown.
“This is community spirit at its best and shows the way in which people are really coming together and looking out for each other during these uncertain times.
