Budget response: Leader calls for jobs to come to Argyll and Bute

Councillor Aileen Morton, Leader of Argyll and Bute Council, welcomed the announcement in today's UK Budget that civil service jobs are coming to Scotland.

Councillor Morton said:

“This is good news but could be great news if the UK and Scottish Government commit to a proportion of these jobs coming to the West of Scotland where the population is falling.

“These roles are needed most outside the central belt of Scotland. Argyll and Bute is both a mainland and island council area – easily accessible from the central belt and one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Moving the jobs here would help reverse the fall in population that is an obstacle to developing Argyll and Bute as a driver for the Scottish and UK economies.

“I urge both Governments to make an announcement as soon as possible confirming that these jobs will be going where they are most needed and where there is plenty of space to accommodate them.”
