Back to school plans progress

Plans are being progressed by Argyll and Bute Council to prepare for children and young people returning to school and early years settings in August.

Although specific details are still being confirmed, children will return to a ‘blended model’ which will include a mix of school and home learning.

Talking about the plans, the Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “Covid-19 has had a huge impact on how education services are delivered across the county. It has been a difficult time for everyone, particularly our young people who are all missing the normality of school life and their fellow pupils.

“The health and wellbeing of our children and young people is, and always has been, our priority. This is reflected in our recovery plans, which have been drafted in accordance with the Scottish Government’s strategic framework.

“The local flexibility of this supports us to meet the needs of the diverse communities we have in Argyll and Bute, and the range of approaches that will be required across our towns, villages and islands. As soon as our arrangements are finalised we will be in touch with parents.”

Councillor McNeilly continued: “With our teaching staff being able to return to their respective schools from Monday 15June to prepare for session 2020/21, it seems only right that I take this opportunity to publicly thank them for working tirelessly to deliver learning opportunities to pupils during these changing circumstances.

“I have no doubt that they will continue to ensure the best outcomes for our children and young people as we move into the first phase of recovery. You are all a credit to our education service and to Argyll and Bute Council.”
