The council’s Growing Our Own scheme is all about providing opportunities for people to build rewarding careers with Argyll and Bute Council, and for young people to see the council as a future employer.
Since 2014, the council’s Growing Our Own scheme has employed over 50 Modern Apprentices. This has provided young people with the opportunity to earn while they learn, kick starting their career by providing an opportunity to benefit from paid work experience and gain an industry recognised qualification.
Rebecca Hepburn is the council’s Workforce Development Officer. She said: “We are committed to continuing to provide employment opportunities for people in Argyll and Bute. Whether that’s through foundation apprenticeships, modern apprenticeships, graduate employees, or skills development amongst existing staff, we want to see people grow within the local authority
“Part of my role sees me attending career days at local secondary schools to give pupils information on what opportunities there are within the local authority. This has been very positive. It’s a great feeling knowing that young people are being given an opportunity to progress their career without having to move away from home – something Argyll and Bute Council is committed to.”
