The Armed Forces Covenant
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, including the bereaved, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society they serve.
The Armed Forces Act 2021 amended the Armed Forces Act 2006 (‘the Act’) and places a legal duty on specified public persons and bodies to have due regard to the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant when exercising certain statutory functions in the fields of healthcare, education and housing. The Covenant Duty came into effect on 22 November 2022.
Read the statutory guidance on the Armed Forces Covenant Duty.

On Thursday 11th September 2025 (4pm – 5:30pm) Forces Children Scotland hosted an online Webinar for school and nursery staff across Argyll and Bute and West Dunbartonshire.
The session was designed for staff with little or no prior knowledge of the challenges faced by Armed Forces children and young people. It provided practical information and resources to support staff in their day-to-day practice.
Key topics included:
- Separation and deployment, explored from the perspectives of children and young people from Armed Forces families.
- Opportunities for participants to learn from each other and reflect on the experiences shared by young people.
- Introduction and exploration of the newly launched Deployment Rollercoaster resource, demonstrating how it can support children
A recording of this session is available on You Tube.
