Hear from our Heads of Education

Find out more about why Argyll and Bute is the place to have a great career in education from Wendy Brownlie and Jennifer Crockett, our joint Heads of Education.

Jennifer Crocket, Head of Education - Lifelong Learning and Support

No other local authority offers the opportunity to work in as many beautiful island schools, remote locations and also towns that are less than an hour to the central belt – the choice is huge and the variety is unique. But more than that, our geography and diversity means that every single person working in education is essential, valued and integral to our communities. We can’t emphasise enough how seriously we take the needs of our young people and the educators who support them. We are committed to Our Children, Their Future which you can read about here. And we need and want people who care and strive to make a positive difference to the lives of young people – bring your experience, grow with us, be part of helping us create resilience, equity and ambition.

I love my job, I’ve been a teacher, I’ve worked at levels and I know what we do is huge - and I want our educators to love theirs too and feel the value of what they achieve every day– join us in Argyll and Bute.

Wendy Brownlee, Head of Education - Learning and Teaching

I’ve worked as a primary teacher and many other roles in education and I have lived and loved being here for most of my career. I think there’s something quite special about Argyll and Bute, maybe it’s the landscape, the culture, the way of life. I’m not sure but I know it’s a great place to be in schools, to learn and grow as a teacher, to really make a difference. I feel strongly about continuing to make our schools the best in Scotland. To help young people understand their talents, for school to be a positive experience from day 1 and for them to feel that education is for life.

You might be thinking about retraining to work here or perhaps you want to move to our corner of the world – there’s an abundance of opportunity to create a good life. We look forward to welcoming you into our schools.
