How long have you worked for Argyll and Bute Council?
I have worked for the council for 5 years now, but have worked in the Early Years sector for 13 years.
How did you get into your job / career area?
I left school when I was 17, to complete a modern apprenticeship in Childcare, and continued to work as a Childcare and Education worker for the next 10 years. Whilst working as a Childcare and Education worker, I attended University to complete my Honours degree, which allowed me to progress into my current role as Lead Childcare and Education worker.
What does your job involve?
As a lead Childcare and Education worker, it is my responsibility to lead and inspire my colleagues day to day. It is my responsibility to ensure that the setting is providing rich, meaningful and high quality play and learning experiences for every child and that every child and family feel supported. I help to support my colleagues to plan experiences and provocations, to ensure that we are getting it right for every child. I am responsible for ensuring that policy and legislation are being met and that national practice guidance are being followed. I am also responsible for liaising with other professionals, parents and community members to ensure children feel a sense of belonging within their community.
Favourite thing about your job?
It is such a rewarding role. To know that you are having a positive impact on the children and making a difference in their lives is so special.
Best thing about working in Argyll and Bute?
Since working for Argyll and Bute, I have had access to many opportunities that have allowed me to further my knowledge and experience in relation to my role, really helping me to reach my full potential, something that I had never experienced before.
