Our visitor economy is a key industry for Argyll and Bute, supporting jobs, businesses, and local communities across the area. Visitors enjoy and rely on many of the same services, facilities and infrastructure used by residents, including roads, public spaces, waste services and visitor attractions.
The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Act 2024 came into effect in May 2024. This was followed by the Visitor Levy (Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2026 in May 2026. The amended Act gives the opportunity to explore a new fixed rate option for local authorities in designing a potential Visitor Levy to raise investment to sustain these shared services, support the future of the visitor economy and deliver benefit to both visitors and residents.
As required under the Act, we are running a new formal visitor levy consultation on the fixed rate option until 5 October 2026, during which time you are urged to find out what it could mean for you and the area and give your views.
To support the consultation we are running online webinars on Tuesday 25 August from 6pm-7pm, and Tuesday 22 September from 1pm -2pm.
The webinars will last for up to one hour and will begin with a short presentation delivered by senior management from Argyll and Bute Council.
You will be able to book a place and submit questions to the panel in advance of the meeting, up to 12 noon on the day of the webinar. You can submit your advance questions when you book your free ticket.
During the webinar, you may also pose questions to the panel using the chat function but you will not be able to speak or raise your hand. Questions will be answered after the presentation. The sessions will not be recorded.
