Background
Argyll and Bute Council, through RPS Tetra Tech, is submitting Marine Licence applications for dredging and construction works at Gigha and Tayinloan.
These projects support ferry infrastructure upgrades to accommodate a new hybrid vessel introduced as part of Transport Scotland’s Small Vessel Replacement Project. These are separate projects under licensing but are progressing in tandem as they relate to ferry infrastructure works, where the ferry services both locations.
These projects relate to the Scoping Opinions- SCOP-0053 (Gigha) and SCOP-0055 (Tayinloan). Both projects require pre-application consultations under the Marine Licensing (Pre-application Consultation) (Scotland) Regulations 2013.
Consultation events
To meet these requirements, consultation events have taken place to discuss the various aspects of the project with members of the public:
Gigha (Ardminish Bay): Improvements include widening the existing slipway and adding a new overnight charging berth to support hybrid ferries.
- Pre-application consultation (PAC) event at Gigha Village Hall: Wednesday 27 August 2025, 10am–3pm and 5pm–8pm
Tayinloan: Works include extending the breakwater and renewing the alignment structure to enhance slipway facilities for the new vessels.
- Pre-application consultation (PAC) event at Tayinloan Village Hall: Thursday 28 August 2025
