Argyll and Bute landscape wind energy capacity study - update 2017

The council, together with Scottish Natural Heritage have commissioned Consultant Landscape Architects to update the Argyll and Bute Landscape Wind Energy Capacity Study 2012.  The updated study was approved by the Councils Planning Protective Services and Licensing Committee on 20th September 2017.

There are two separate parts to the report.  The Main Study Report provides details of the background and methodology of the study, a description of the baseline landscape character, and summary sensitivity assessments for each landscape character type. The Appendix Report provides detailed sensitivity assessments for each of the landscape character types.

Argyll and Bute landscape wind energy capacity study

March 2012

The council, together with Scottish Natural Heritage have commissioned Consultant Landscape Architects to prepare an Argyll and Bute Wind Energy Capacity Study. The study provides technical information which will be used to help develop the windfarm / wind turbine policies and associated spatial framework in the proposed Local Development Plan (LDP). The study has used the landscape character types identified in Landscape assessment of Argyll and the Firth of Clyde (1996) undertaken by Environmental Resources Management for SNH, as the basis for assessment. However, the study was reviewed and some revisions made to landscape character types and their classification for the purposes of this study. Separate assessments have also been carried out for the National Scenic Areas. In addition, the study provides new guidance on the siting of smaller scale (up to 50 metre) turbines throughout Argyll and Bute.

There are two separate parts to the report. The Main study report provides details of the background and methodology of the study, a description of the baseline landscape character, and summary sensitivity assessments for each landscape character type. Separate sensitivity assessments have been carried out for each of the National Scenic Areas within Argyll and Bute, and there is also a chapter which provides guidance on siting for smaller turbines. The last part of the Main study report provides a summary of the study's findings and conclusions. In addition to the main study there is also an Appendix report; this provides Detailed Sensitivity Assessments for each of the landscape character types and subtypes identified in the study, with separate assessments for five National Scenic Areas in Argyll and Bute.

Owing to the large file sizes both the Main report and the Appendix report are broken down into a series of separate PDF files.
