Managing vehicle speed, and making roads safer is the work of the Council’s Project 20, currently looking at which roads in our area could be appropriate for a lower speed limit of 20mph.

Diversion remains in place: A83, Lochgilphead, for public safety

Work is underway to make a dangerous building, damaged by fire at the weekend, safe in Lochnell Street, Lochgilphead. For the protection of the public the Lochnell Street section of the A83 must remain closed while this work is carried out, and a diversion remains in place.

Argyll and Bute’s young people achieved above national average results across nearly all qualifications, according to the latest analysis of this year’s exam results. The data reveals impressive achievements across National 5, Higher levels and an increase in wider achievement awards.

Argyll and Bute maintains top ten ranking for youth engagement

Argyll and Bute Council has once again demonstrated a strong performance in supporting young people into education, training, and employment. The latest Annual Participation Measure (APM) shows that 94.6% of 16–19-year-olds were participating between April 2024 and March 2025, an increase of 0.3% on last year and 1.3% above the Scottish average of 93.3%.

Inspectors praise high quality teaching

Inspections took place between May and September 2025 in three Argyll and Bute Primary Schools and Early Learning Centres including Bunessan, Rosneath and Ulva.
