Lochdonhead Primary School has received gold accreditation in UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting School programme.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. The Rights Respecting Schools Award is awarded to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s’ rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school.
Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “The Rights Respecting Schools Award is a prestigious title and Lochdonhead’s accreditation shows the importance that the school places on ensuring that pupils see themselves as rights respecting global citizens, and are advocates for social justice, fairness and children’s rights at home and abroad. This is a truly great achievement for everyone involved.”
Head Teacher at Lochdonhead, Susie Carmichael said: “We are delighted to achieve the standard for UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting School Award at Gold! The feedback we received from UNICEF stated ‘It was evident that children’s rights are embedded across the school and underpin every facet of school life.’
“We started our Rights Respecting School journey in 2018 and I am so unbelievably proud of all the pupils, parents and staff – past and present, as well as our wonderful community, who were instrumental in our quest to gold. Thank you!”
