Funding available for island businesses

Scottish Government funding is now available to island businesses currently living under level 3 restrictions. The Island Equivalent Payment recognises that while some islands are facing lower restrictions, there is still a significant impact as a result of COVID-19.

Grants are available on the same basis as offered through the Strategic Framework Business Fund (SFBF) to eligible mainland businesses while in Level 4, as well as the hospitality, retail and leisure top up payment. Payments are subject to the same terms and conditions as the Strategic Framework Business Fund.

This will apply to the Isle of Coll, the Isle of Colonsay, the Isle of Erraid, the Isle of Gometra, the Isle of Iona, the Isle of Islay, the Isle of Jura, the Isle of Mull, the Isle of Oronsay, the Isle of Tiree, and the Isle of Ulva.

Please note - if you have already applied for SFBF – whether approved or rejected – do not apply again – all previous applications will be reassessed for eligibility for the Island Equivalent Payment.

The criteria is set by the Scottish Government. Please check the Scottish Government website to see if you are eligible before applying.

Councillor Robin Currie, Leader of Argyll and Bute Council:

“We welcome the support now available to island businesses. While some islands are fortunate to have a lower level just now, the impact on businesses has been just as significant as the mainland.

Many of our island businesses rely on tourism and hospitality and are struggling just the same as businesses currently under level 4. It is only right they can access the same help as everyone else affected by COVID-19.

We are working incredibly hard to make sure businesses receive the latest funding updates. I would encourage island businesses to check the criteria and apply for funding as soon as possible. ”
