Mid Argyll (Ward 3) Local Government By-Election

Due to a vacancy arising following the death of Councillor Douglas (Dougie) Philand, a by-election is to be held to elect one councillor to the Mid Argyll multi-member Ward (Ward 3) of Argyll and Bute Council.  The Returning Officer has determined that polling should take place on Thursday 29 October 2026.

The Mid Argyll ward includes the polling districts of Ardrishaig, Achahoish, Crinan, Tayvallich, Lochgilphead, Inveraray, Furnace, Kilmartin, Ford, Craignish, Kilmichael Glassary and Minard and has an electorate of just under 6,000 people.

A Notice of Election formally calling the election will be published on this webpage on Friday 11 September 2026.  Nominations from prospective candidates can then be formally lodged with the Returning Officer, Kilmory, Lochgilphead PA31 8RT between the hours of 10am and 4pm, commencing from 10am on Monday 14 September until 4pm on Monday 28 September 2026.  To facilitate this, a nomination pack for the by-election is now available.
