Rosneath business has success all sewn up

After being made redundant from her marketing job, Raine Davidson, decided the time had come for her to do something completely different.

Raine, from Rosneath, wanted to use her creative skills to start a business making home and personal accessories using traditional materials with a modern twist.

With support from Argyll and Bute Council’s Business Gateway, Raine established The Little Stitch Company and is now selling her homemade products online and at craft fairs across the country.

Raine said: “I’ve always enjoyed practical hobbies such as furniture restoration, DIY and sewing. I get a great deal of satisfaction from making things and after being made redundant it became increasingly important to me that I could be master of my own destiny.  I love working with Harris Tweed because the new designs have such wonderful colours and patterns and at the same time it’s hand woven and very traditional – and, of course, very Scottish.

“Although it’s early days, I have a few craft fairs under my belt and I’ve had some great sales and feedback from buyers. My range of Harris Tweed cafetiere covers and snoods are doing particularly well and I’m keen to expand my collection this year, including a selection of handbags and hats.”

At the moment Raine also sells her Little Stitch Company products on Ebay, Folksy and Etsy, and customers can find out more on Facebook - The Little Stitch Company

She added: “I’m very excited about the future and about building up the business. I’ve found talking to others within the business world, particularly my Business Gateway adviser, has helped clarify my own thinking. I signed up for the free Business Gateway workshop on bookkeeping, because although I am fairly financially savvy, I’ve never had to do accounts before so I found this course extremely useful.”

Ann Scott, Business Adviser, Business Gateway said: “Raine has taken advantage of our services, including one-to-one advice, attending workshops and accessing support on the Business Gateway website.”
