Supporting Communities Fund: Participatory Budgeting Pilot
In 2017/18 Argyll & Bute Council distributed their Supporting Communities Fund by asking people living in Argyll and Bute to vote for the projects they wished to see funded by the total Fund available in their area. Votes were cast mainly through a website. This was a pilot project with an aim to involve people living in Argyll and Bute in making decisions about how public money is spent. This is sometimes known as Participatory Budgeting or Community Choices.
Community Empowerment Event
On Saturday 11th March 2017, an event on the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act was held at the Three Villages Hall, Arrochar.
Approximately 70 participants from a wide range of community and public sector organisations attended to hear about key aspects of the Act and what it meant for communities.
Delegates heard from Kevin Stewart MSP, David Allan from the Scottish Community Development Centre on Participation Requests, Drew MacEoghainn from the Community Ownership Support Service on Asset Transfer, and Ali Stoddart from the Democratic Society about Participatory Budgeting. Workshops were also held on Community Right to Buy, Asset Transfer, Developing a Community-led Action Plan, and "Your Parliament, Your Voice".
