Product safety

The safety of all consumer products, whether they are sold as new or second hand are controlled by a wide range of Regulations enforced by Argyll and Bute Councils Trading Standards Service.

All goods on the marketplace must be safe. This can be achieved by Officers from the Trading Standards Service inspecting goods at retail, wholesale and manufacturer levels, sampling products for testing and investigating complaints relating to unsafe products.

If you are starting a new business it is important to speak to Trading Standards to discuss the appropriate measures that have to be taken to ensure your product is safe prior to placing it on the market.

If you have purchased a product that you have any concerns relating to its safety please contact the Advice Direct Scotland for advice.
