What information do we need?
Argyll and Bute Council will act as the ‘Data Controller’ for the personal data you provide to us. The Data Protection Officer, who is responsible for ensuring personal data is managed in accordance with data protection legislation, can be contacted as follows:

The personal information we collect from you will be your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number and position in organisation. We will also collect information about your business and the type of support you are seeking.
Why we need this information?
Your information is being collected to allow the Council to consider your submission of a Business Funding Enquiry Form for funding for your business and to contact you in relation to that.
We need to know this information in order:
- To identify appropriate support via the funding schemes administered by the Council and to assess your initial eligibility for support
- To contact you by post, email or telephone in regard to providing you with support and
- To maintain our records
We will not collect any personal data from you that isn’t needed to process your enquiry about suitable business funding and support via the Council.
Our legal basis for processing your information:
- Article 6(1)(a) Consent – you are consenting to the processing of your personal information through submission of the form
What we will do with your information
The information you provide in the Business Funding Enquiry Form will be reviewed by Council Officers to assess your suitability for support from the range of funds administered by the Council. We may contact you to ask for more information.
In order to assess your Business Funding Enquiry Form, we may share your information with other Council Services, such as Community Development and Economic Growth, including the Council’s Business Gateway service. The Business Gateway service has its own Privacy Policy https://www.bgateway.com/privacy-policy.
If you meet the criteria for a specific funding scheme, we will contact you to advise of its suitability. If you proceed to application stage for any of the funding schemes administered by the Council, we will provide further information about that scheme, including any privacy information, issued by the grant provider.
If you do not meet the criteria for any of the current funding schemes, we will advise you of this and may also contact you to signpost alternative sources of funding from external providers of business support.
If you have consented on the submitted Business Funding Enquiry Form, we will contact you if suitable funding opportunities arise in future.
Your organisation name and details of your project may be included within reports to committees within the Council to seek agreement for funding. Your personal contact information will not be included in any such report.
Council officers may share information held by other Council departments where this is relevant to your current Business Funding Enquiry Form submission and relates to services previously provided to you.
All of the information we collect from you will be processed by staff in the United Kingdom. You should also be aware that your data will be stored on servers located in within the United Kingdom; the data will not be processed outside the European Union. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your data is kept securely and more information on how we do this can be requested from the Data Protection Officer.
How long will we keep your information?
We will retain the details of your Business Funding Enquiry Form submission for a period of 3 years.
After the above applicable period, it will be destroyed under secure arrangements if it is no longer required for the lawful purpose for which it was obtained. More information on our retention policy and procedure can be obtained from the Data Protection Officer if required.
Automated Decision Making
No automated decision making will take place.
Your Rights
When you provide information to the Council, you will have the following rights:
- to withdraw consent at any time, where the lawful basis specified above is consent.
- to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office – see below for details.
- to request access to your personal data – please contact the Data Protection Officer if you wish to submit a request.
- to data portability, where the Legal basis specified above is i) consent or ii) performance of a contract.
- to request rectification or erasure of your personal data, as far as the legislation permits – please contact the Data Protection Officer and provide details of what data you wish to be rectified or erased.
