Developing young people is part of the council’s future workforce planning approach. Our Modern Apprenticeships are a great way for 16-24 year olds (or 16-29 if they have additional support needs or are care experienced)  to get real experience directly in the workplace, working within Local Government whilst studying towards a vocational qualification by attending college or a training organisation.

Completing our apprenticeship scheme gives young people skills and experience, which helps them to progress and succeed within their career along with recognised and certified qualifications.

Modern Apprenticeships at Argyll and Bute Council

What is a Modern Apprenticeship?

Modern Apprenticeships provide an alternative route into the world of work. They are mainly for young people aged 16 to 24 (29 if care experienced or disabled) from all backgrounds who have left school or college.

Modern Apprenticeships offer individuals the opportunity to earn while they learn, gaining valuable work experience and a recognised qualification all at the same time. Apprenticeships can take from one to four years to complete as they vary depending on the learning framework undertaken.

At Argyll and Bute Council, we’re proud to support the development of our future talent through a range of apprenticeship opportunities across departments and are determined by service need. Apprenticeships offered have included:

  • Business Administration
  • Digital Applications
  • Social Services
