Adoption register in Scotland

Argyll and Bute Council has signed up to the Adoption Register.  Due to the mismatch of approved adopters and children being placed in adoptive placements, the Government has funded BAAF to run the Adoption Register which was established in 2011.

Authorities who sign up to join the Register will pass on details of approved couples waiting to be matched.  Couples are retained for potential matches within their own Authority initially but if this doesn’t happen, the Register will enable a much wider link across Scotland.  It is anticipated that this will increase the number of placements and avoid children remaining in temporary placements.

The Government has identified this as a particular concern and the effectiveness of the new Register will be closely monitored.
